Incorporating Charitable Efforts into a One-Hour Team Building Activity

A pharmaceutical company wanted to do a team-building activity with a charitable component. The organization selected a hospital charity that helps children going through cancer or other life-altering medical procedures.  In the past, our client had previously utilized a similar activity and created canvas artwork that was donated and displayed within a hospital.

For the current team-building activity, our client decided to assemble milestone kits to mark celebratory occasions such as birthdays, treatment completion, disease remission, or other important dates or anniversaries.  Each milestone package consisted of popcorn, candy, gift cards, and movies, along with other items.

With our client’s goals in mind, the Gavel International team partnered with Ethos Event Collective, a local destinations management company focused on Purposeful Planning and Meaningful Results, to organize a one-hour team-building event for 300 people.  We utilized 36 tables, placing nine people at each table.

Since team building was one of the two main goals, Gavel also incorporated interactive fun in the form of a quick and easy game.  The nostalgia of childhood was important when determining games since the contributions of the team-building activity would be gifted to children.  Rock-paper-scissors was selected because it is simple, with little need to explain rules, and everyone knows how to play it.

Stations were then set up with the items necessary to build the kits.  Participants from each table were assigned a station.  Flash rounds of rock-paper-scissors began, and round winners would receive an item from the station to include in the kit assembly.  This process was repeated until all kit merchandise had been evenly allocated across the tables.  Next, table participants assembled the milestone kits as a team.

Thanks to Gavel’s expertise in event planning, vendor-partner relationship with Ethos Event Collective, and careful preparation, the event participants came together as a team, creating milestone kits to benefit children dealing with cancer or other life-altering medical procedures. Our client was left feeling optimistic about the team building they did for their organization and the good they did for others.
